HE KUPU NĀ TE MANAWHAKAHAERE

Rāhina, 13 o Maehe 2023

Tēnā tātou katoa, e Unu, e Kahu,

Following our notification earlier this week, announcing the Marae closure to enable maintenance and restoration activities, the Marae Trustees have met to discuss upcoming priorities. We advise the following decisions:

Te Whare Kōrero o Unu - The Marae Wānanga

The Wānanga scheduled for the weekend of Āperira (31 March - 01 April), has been cancelled as the Wharenui is a maintenance site and accommodation is unavailable. However, a collective of Ngāti Unu, Ngāti Kahu will be present at the O-Rākau commemoration (01 April 2023). We invite all of our hapū members interested in attending the wānanga to join us at the Battle site.

We attend annually to represent our people and remember our Tūpuna who took up arms in defence, fighting to protect our future.

Hui ā-Marae (Te Rōpū Whakahaere election) - 10am, 02 April 2023 (Pōwhiri/Mihi: 9:40am)

A hui will be held to elect up to two (2) hapū members as Te Rōpū Whakahaere representatives to Te Whare o Waiwaiā, for the purpose of representing our Marae / region in land, water and environmental matters at a regional level. This is an important kaupapa which was discussed in much length at the recent Committee hui.

Te Nehenehenui will be welcomed to the Marae at 9:40am, the hui will begin at Hinemārama at 10am and complete by 1pm.

If you wish to stand for election: email tekopuamarae213@outlook.co.nz outlining your current contribution to the Marae and why you wish to represent our Marae before 5pm, 31 March 2023.

To vote you must be registered on the Te Nehenehenui Tribal database.

It is important that we remember that the Wharenui is a maintenance site. For health & safety concerns we remind our people that you have no authorisation to enter the whare during this time. The whare iti and kautā will remain open zones.

Nāku noa nā,

Shane Te Ruki - Manawhakahaere - Chair of Te Kōpua Marae Trust
